Renault will ask its dealers to put a substantial investment behind the launch of the low-cost Dacia Logan in Britain in 2009.

The carmaker will insist on a separate sales channel for Dacia and will allow both brands to share showrooms only in exceptional circumstances, according to executive vice-president Patrick Pelata.

“We are keen to make the Logan available in right hand drive markets and have studied the business case for the UK, where the car will carry Dacia branding,” Pelata said.

“It will have a different network as far as the customer is concerned. However, the biggest difference will come in sales negotiations – unlike other brands, Logan will not be subject to big discounts.”

As the first RHD examples were being launched in India at prices ranging from €7,400 (£5,032) to €11,100, Pelata said: “We have loyal dealers and would like them to embrace another brand. But they will be expected to invest in facilities that are entirely separate and only in some special cases will we allow the two brands to be sold from a single base.”

Pelata, who is also chairman of Renault India, said it was likely that demand in the domestic market would account for all production in India and that UK supplies would be sourced from Romania, where annual capacity is being increased to 350,000 units.

He added: “We have been surprised at the interest shown in the car in western Europe and have discovered that a growing number of customers want transport that is just simple, reliable and comfortable.

“It has opened a new market for us and we are studying how to develop it. We are working on many derivatives – there will be two coupe versions, one of which will be smaller and even cheaper.”


Sa inteleg ca Renault nu prea vrea dar e fortata. Adica daca vreti sa distribuiti Dacia, faceti dealer separat (alti bani). Nu atiu cati intreprinzatori se vor baga la investitii, o sa vedem.

ar fi bine sa fie 2 modele de sine statatoare, ambele cu 2(3) si 4(5) usi. adica 4 masini in plus fatza de ce exista acum pe piatza. cool.

cu cat mai multe variante, cu atat mai bine, sa fie pentru toate buzunarele. daca este sa fie adevarate si zvonurile cu baby SUV-ul si sa mai iasa si alte modele cu tractiune 4x4 cum dealtfel sper si eu, incep sa ma indoiesc de capacitatile de productie ale Dacia. dar in cazul in care aceste piticanii se vor produce in America de sud, totul este posibil.
