Simbolul folosit de utilizatorii de computer pentru a arata ca zambesc, ":-)", a implinit 25 de ani de la prima folosire, potrivit ziarului britanic "The Sun".
Simbolul, folosit in conversatii online, in email-uri sau chiar SMS-uri, a fost inventat de un expert IT din Pittsburgh, Statele Unite.
Profesorul Scott Fahlman a fost primul care a folosit cele doua puncte, urmate de cratima si o paranteza inchisa pentru a forma o fata zambitoare intr-un mesaj pe computer. Abia apoi au urmat restul de simboluri, precum ":-(" , pentru o fata trista, "8-O", pentru surpriza, sau ";-)", pentru cineva care face cu ochiul, care au fost numite "smiley faces".
Fahlman a declarat ca el a ramas conservator si ca prefera simbolul ":-)" in detrimentul graficilor moderne
