Distribution of Renault products in Nordic marketsFollowing a recent meeting between executives from Renault and Volvo Cars to discuss the future of their partnership in the Nordic region, it has been decided not to renew the importer agreement between the two manufacturers once the current agreement expires on December 31, 2007.
From January 1, 2008, Renault will establish its own subsidiary for the distribution of its vehicles and spare parts and provision of after sales services in the four Nordic markets (Sweden, Norway, Finland and Denmark.)
Both Renault and Volvo Cars are keen to ensure a smooth transition period. Moreover, Renault wishes to retain the existing dealer network in the four markets for the sale and servicing of Renault cars and light commercial vehicles (LCV).
This decision will not affect Renault customers.
Since January 1, 1982, the distribution of Renault cars and LCVs, Renault spare parts and the provision of Renault after sales services in the Nordic countries have been carried out by Volvo Cars, through a network of dual-branded, Volvo-Renault Dealers.
This successful partnership has seen Renault sales rise from 6,500 units in 1982 to more than 35,000 in 2005. In total, 500,000 new Renault vehicles have been sold in the four Nordic markets during this period.
The most recent renewal of the importer agreement between the two manufacturers was in 2003, for a period of five years.
Marie-Christine Caubet, Renault Senior Vice President, Market Area Europe commented: “The ambitions of Renault Commitment 2009 announced by our President, Carlos Ghosn, in February 2006 require that we review our distribution policy in a number of key markets. It is in this context, and after much reflection, that we have made the decision not to renew the agreement with Volvo Cars.”
“We wanted to continue our cooperation with Renault after 25 successful years together but we will now strive for a good transfer of business for our employees, dealers and customers,” says Thomas Andersson, President of Volvo Cars Nordic.
