QUOTE(James May)
The gulf between the Lamborghini Gallardo I'd just climbed out of and the range-topping 1.6-litre Sandero I'd just climbed in to was clearly massive, but not so great as the gulf between the Sandero and the gloomy platform where one awaits the curling echo of a train* that signifies our enslavement to a higher power and, ultimately, our mortality. Or a bus stop, or the prospect of a long walk.
It's not just a massive leap forward from the bus stop, it's also a long way from the other Dacias that still litter Romania's roads, notably the Renault 12-based 1310 series. They, like the Lada Riva, seem like a communist hangover, a once good car rendered ugly by intervention from the forces of supposed egalitarianism. The Sandero whiffs of freedom.

Fain articol smile.gif James May mi s-a parut mereu cel mai modest dintre cei de la Top Gear. Si pare sincer in tot ce a scris acolo smile.gif

QUOTE
The Sandero is the essence of a car, devoid of any of the sociological fug that turns it into a fashion statement, a status symbol, an indulgence, a brand experience or a lifestyle accessory. It's a medium-size hatchback doing a functional job and, as a proposition for the car enthusiast it's a bit, well, humdrum.

Oricum, aia-s topiti dupa Sandero, MCV, van si pick-up. Dupa sedan nu se prea omoara ei... Si asa, mi-a zis var'miu care sta aproape de Leipzig ca deja-s destul de multicele pe strada, iar la dealer, lista de asteptare e de 2-3 luni.

Ha ha. Tare. Cel mai important este ca partile rele, in viziunea lui May, practic nu exista. Oricum, nu ma asteptam sa citesc ceva legat de batranele noastre 1310.
Super reclama. Nota 10.

I like a basic car and the immediacy of the Sandero's responses are a product of its simplicity, not least because it is commendably light as a result.

I love its honesty. Not only does the best Sandero cost only as much as a used Ford Focus, it's a perfectly good car by any reasonable method of analysis.

This sense of freedom costs from €6,890 (£6,210) in Romania, although the same 1.4-litre car – with a better specification – costs €7,800 (£7,030) in France.

There are two ways of looking at it. One is that it is a cheap car for poor people, a calculated exercise by an opportunist manufacturer and not really good enough for the rest of us.

But it doesn't feel like that. It feels refreshing, elemental and pleasingly anti-fashion, which in turn makes it seem rather cool.

It is, when all's said and done, just a car. And it's here to remind us what that really means.

We like

Simplicity, low price, lack of flim-flam, surprisingly good fun to drive.

SUPER RECLAMA.
