Toyota recalls 95,700 vehicles over cold weather braking concern

Toyota has begun working with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to recall 95,700 vehicles with a brake issue that could lead to poor stopping at low temperatures. The recall involves 2009 and 2010 Toyota Corolla and Matrix models and 2008-2009 Scion xD models with the 1.8-liter engine, and only customers in 19 cold weather states are eligible for the recall.

Toyota says the problem may arise when condensed moisture from the positive crankcase ventilation port seeps into the brake system vacuum port and freezes. As ice accumulates, the brake vacuum port could plug up and "power assist to the brakes would gradually decrease and lead to lengthened vehicle stopping distances." That doesn't sound good. Owners of affected vehicles will soon receive a notice from Toyota, followed by instructions to take the vehicle to a Toyota dealership for no-cost repairs. Dealer technicians will install a newly designed intake air connector that relocates the brake system vacuum port, a one-hour procedure.

While it's definitely a good thing that Toyota caught this issue as soon as it did, we have a bit of an issue with the fact that the recall is only for cold weather states. It's not like a Corolla or Matrix can't cross state lines during winter, and nobody deserves to be met with brakesicles when they try to stop. Hit the jump to pour over Toyota's press release.

El propio fabricante se encargará de revisar los cubos y sustituirlos si es que procede. Los modelos afectados fueron fabricados entre el 19 y el 23 de mayo de 2009.

Suzuki Grand Vitara: El todoterreno compacto japonés (código JB 419 D) es otro de esos con graves problemas de calentura. "Debido a una protección inadecuada del cableado eléctrico del motor, el cableado puede contactar con el tornillo de la tapa de distribución del motor y dañarse el aislante de los cables. Si se conduce en estas condiciones repetidamente el cableado puede cortocircuitase causando fallos del motor. En el peor de los casos, esto podría causar un incendio". Como es habitual, Suzuki se hará cargo de las reparaciones pertinentes.

Alfa Romeo MiTo: El problema del pequeño italiano es decididamente el menos habitual. Resulta que el fabricante ensambló varias unidades indicando en el propio vehículo que puede remolcar cargas de hasta 1.000 kg de peso, cuando lo cierto es que la masa máxima del hipotético remolque es exactamente la mitad (500 kg). Este fallo también fue reproducido en los manuales del coche, que deberán ser corregidos. El boletín de la UE no indica las medidas adoptadas, a excepción de que Alfa Romeo ya se encuentra trabajando en el asunto.

    Puede encenderse el testigo de aviso del ESP. Las luces de freno pueden no encenderse o quedarse encendidas permanentemente. La palanca de cambio automático no se puede mover de la posición P a otras posiciones o viceversa. No se puede cancelar o no se activa el control de crucero



Como es habitual la casa se encargará de avisar a los propietarios de los vehículos afectados para que se acerquen por la consulta del doctor.

Mercedes-Benz Vito y Viano: La pareja de Mercedes mantiene su "buena estrella" con un nuevo defecto, que en este caso afecta a las ventanas traseras. Según el boletín, los vidrios podrían desprenderse totalmente del vehículo, poniendo en peligro a los conductores que circulen detrás. Las unidades a revisar fueron fabricadas entre octubre y diciembre de 2005, y marzo y abril de 2006, con números de identificación entre 113873 y 243876.

Toyota will follow up NHTSA safety alert with its largest ever recall in the U.S. as soon as it has a solution figured out. In the mean time, if you own one of the above vehicles, your government would like you to play it safe and remove the driver-side floor mat. Now we have to wonder, who's going to pay the rather large bill for cleaning the carpet in thousands of vehicles that got their foot wells dirty from having no floor mats?

Toyota cam da kiks. Se pare ca topurile de calitatea au fost cam lejer facute in ultimii ani.

Toyota Motor este investigata de catre autoritatile americane pentru siguranta traficului, in urma unor reclamatii privind corodarea sasiului la modelul pickup Tundra produs in 2000 si 2001, care ar provoca defectarea sistemului de franare sau pierderea rotii de rezerva, potrivit Mediafax. Investigatia are loc la o saptamana dupa ce producatorul auto japonez a rechemat pentru reparatii un numar record de 3,8 milioane de vehicule pentru a remedia riscul ca acceleratia sa fie apasata accidental prin deplasarea unui covoras de masina, problema suspectata a fi la baza decesului a cinci persoane.

problema e de proiectare, practic pedala ajunge prea jos in pozitie normala atunci cand ai covorase.. Deci e o problema destul de serioasa pe care toyota o trateaza cu fundu wacko.gif

Empezando por el checo, el Roomster ha sido equipado con un clip incorrecto en el clip del cinturón de seguridad trasero central, por lo que (citamos textualmente) "en caso de avería los parámetros especificados para la fijación del clip no son correctos". Skoda ha comunicado que se encargará de sustituir la pieza en las unidades afectadas.

En cuanto al Opel Corsa, desde Alemania se informa de que el coche podría presentar problemas de seguridad debido al uso de unos tornillos incorrectos para fijar los asientos delanteros al chasis del vehículo. Como consecuencia, "la solidez de los tornillos y el funcionamiento del sistema completo asiento/cinturón de seguridad" podría no responder en caso de accidente. Opel revisará los coches afectados, identificables por haber sido fabricados en 2009 con números de chasis W0L0 SD L08 9 6 121296 a W0L0 SD L08 9 6 131696.
