The Renault Symbioz Concept represents the automaker's vision for mobility beyond the year 2030, when vehicles will be able to fully interact with connected homes, cities and road infrastructures.

Renault's Symbioz is actually "an integrated house and car" that work together in harmony. This marks the first time ever that a concept car and a connected home have been unveiled at a motor show.

"The way we use our cars is changing. Already a car is more than just a way to get from one place to another. Full of technology, it's becoming an interactive and personalized space that connects passengers to other cars, people and objects around them," said Renault VP, Thierry Bollore.

"Looking to 2030 we imagine new scenarios with more efficient energy use, connectivity and autonomous driving scenarios that will improve how we live and travel."

The Renault Symbioz concept is powered by all-electric motors located on the rear axle, with each motor driving one wheel. In terms of power, we're looking at a whooping 500 kW (680 PS) and 660 Nm (486 lb-ft) peak torque. This means that it can hit 100 km/h (62 mph) from a standstill in less than six seconds, while traveling more than 500 km (310 miles) in real-world driving conditions on motorways. Also, its 72 kWh batteries can be charged to 80% of their capacity in 20 minutes via an inductive charging system.

As for the house concept, the way it works is by having the Symbioz drive into the house where it will become an additional, modular room/connected space.

"No longer can we think of car design in isolation from the ecosystem surrounding us. Renault Symbioz truly is a unique project that allowed us to work with planners, designers, engineers and architects. Our goal was to explore new boundaries in customer experience, technology, energy use and design harmony to form a completely new global experience," added Renault boss for corporate design, Laurens van den Acker.

According to the French automaker, an electric, autonomous and connected demo vehicle somewhat similar to the Symbioz will be available for testing later this year. This demo car is supposed to embody the brand's mid-term vision before 2023, which includes technology like Multi-Sense, Easy Connect and Easy Drive.
