Hey everyone,
Finally I've managed to register to the forum! laugh.gif
As you can see from my nick, I live in the UK capital from almost 3 years but I come originally from Rome.
I own a lovely tiny Twingo in a great metallic green and with the lazy 1.2 8v Engine.
I absolutely adore it, for many different reasons, who ever has one knows why.
Hope to find a chance to know many of you and your beloved Twingos.

Cheers

Mark

Hi & Wellcome Mr. Mark from Rome living in London,

You can find here http://www.reno.ro/Twingo-f118.html some discutions about Twingo - in Romanian tongue.gif ... you can ask here and make new topics in english if you want.

Thanks a mil Andrei,
I will post a few treads in English then, there are some questions I would ask to the rest of the forum.
Could you or anyone else in the forum tell me how the Twingo is seen in Romania?
I mean, looking at it its just a normal and innocent city car, but with a bit of tuning and good sense can become a real beauty cool.gif
Who of the guys in the forum have "played" more with their cars?

Mark ... unfortunatelly on this forum the number of "Twingo users" is less than 15 from what I know. So you can undestand that there are not so many discussions about it.

In Romania I cannot tell you how many Twingos are but I can tell you that are not so many either. From my point of view Twingo is seen in Romania as a small city car.

Maybe someone who owns a Twingo could answer better tongue.gif

Welcome, Mark.

I don't think people see the Twingo as anything special in our country. Actually, Renault's image isn't 'anything special' because it's associated with Dacia Logan and cheap Clio Symbols, so any Renault is seen as a 'cheap' and 'bad' car even though it's not always the case...

Maybe the new Twingo will catch on better, as Andrei said above, the current Twingo isn't really popular in here so we can't help you out with that.

Enjoy your stay nonetheless wink.gif

Renault never sold the Twingo in Romania (would've had about the same price as the Clio Symbol sedan), so all twingos here are used cars imported from Germany mainly - quite popular for they are amongst the cheapest and low taxed euro3 cars

Thanks everybody, I really appreciate your welcome.
Feel quite disappointed though because I thought the Twingo were sold in all Europe.
Anyway, maybe you could help me out with some Renault issues rather than the Twingo ones.
Since I have decided to swap out my engine with a better one, could you tell me which conversion would work better?
I was troubled whether to go for the 1.2 16v, same engine as mine, but with twin cam distribution and 75 "blessed" BHP, or the 1.4 16v, that in some new versions has 100BHP wub.gif
What are the main differences between the two? Which one would you suggest and why?

@Daniel: Very pleased to meet you, I love to know my other Twingo brothers! biggrin.gif

How you can manage with a left hand drive in england?
As I know, like in Romania, and because of conversion, twingos are not sold in GB.
And about the engine, probably is more simple to go for 1,2 in 16v, or more complicated, for the same 1,2 with turbo mounted on clio 3 and the next twingo 2.

Thanks for the welcome J.d

@Mihye: I dont find any problem driving a lhd car in England, you just have to be very careful not to follow very closely buses or trucks in the narrow city roads in case you need to overtake them, is not so pleasant to drive in the opposite line when you are completely blind... happy.gif
The good thing thou is that seems to drive a very rare car, I have seen more ferraris than twingos in london wink.gif

You better get the 1.2 16v 75 BHP: it will probably work very good with the actual rest of the car. With 1.4 16v 100 BHP you'll probably have to change the clutch, brakes, exhaust system, gearbox... you get the ideea.

Don't expect very much from the 1.2 16v engine. It will go faster (higher top speed), but it will be a little bit lezier than the actual 1.2 8v at low rpm (under 1500 rpm, all 16v engines have that). Near and over 2000 rpm, the 16v engine feels very good. Over 4000 rpm it's a small Beast biggrin.gif . I compared 1.4 8v and 1.4 16v engines on the same body (Clio II) and I felt exactly as I mentioned. I thing it worth the upgrade.

Good luck.

well .... im my opinion it must be somthink to make an up grade from 1.2 8v to 1.6 16v even if you will modifie exhaust and cloutch!
You will transform that little think in to something like an vr6 from vw only that you will not have a V6 eingine smile.gif
Take in consideratin that if you do decide to have this up grade you will ha to put wide tires for better grip(you will nwd it!!!)
Btw I have a friend hwoown a sot top twingo.he is about 2 meeters toll, and works in IT.Recently he has sticket a colant on his car with "pinky power" (the car is pink)

So, in my opinion, if you will change the engine, you will have a great car. But first, take the car and go with it to a service for measurements. The problem might be that another engine will not fit under the hood. You might also need to change the gear box (I’m not sure!)
The idea is that you can modify your own engine.
First, you will have to change the admission to make it larger, the exhaust also must be modified and you will gain another 15 hp. You may also go fw and put on your car a high pressure fuel ramp and fuel injectors from an 1.4 engine, witch will give you a extra aprox 20 hp
Its your decision what you will do next, but I would definitely want to know what you have done with your car.
Costin
